I have a quiet negative view on artists in digital world I’m not into it really but sadly I can’t control or stop the progression of technology.

In a current state in the world with all digitalization and other shenanigans it’s actually important for an artist to have an active digital presence especially on social media, I wouldn’t say that website is that important Instagram is a much more profitable and popularized platform so a lot really well known artist have an active accounts that they run by themselves or a special social media manager person.

We could try an talk about one of the most important artists who live right now and someone who’s got a strong presence on social media Ai Weiwei.

He got I, he just got it, he’s got 575k followers on Instagram and I think it’s an ideal place for him could you imagine his Fuck Off works just exhibited on;y on Instagram it would be great, and for artists like Ai Weiwei who are doing a lot of political art digital presence is an absolute must thing to do.

The biggest side of it is profit, with popularity comes money and the easiest way to get it is through social media because of the accessibility and low entry threshold into social media culture, it’s a big business.

Another big example is Takashi Murakami he’s git 1,8m followers and he’s getting a lot of attention because of his fame, he’s going on Fashion Shows, he is taking pictures with Famous people like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, he is doing a lot collaborations with musicians, fashion brands and Instagram play a big role in it.

Every gallery have a social media account every art event literally everything.

In conclusion I would say that artist should have a digital presence only if this person wants to get popularity and big income, of course there are always some downfalls to it, a lot of art fairs happen on social media so in the age of technology it is quiet important to have an active digital presence especially on social media, because a lot of daily parts of our lives are shifting into them, I would say it’s important, but it’s just not my cup of tea.
